Happy New Year! 🎊
I hope your first day of 2023 has been fantastic! I got to spend part of it writing this newsletter to you :) I really appreciate being able to share my art journey with you each month, so thank you for being here.
If you are new, welcome and I’m so happy you’ve joined all of us in this space! I have a once-a-month newsletter with updates. I also write a weekly newsletter for artists/creatives. You’re welcome to adjust your settings to receive one or both of the newsletters.
What I have for you this month:
New Greeting Cards:
Many of the birthday cards in my shop are inspired by my family. December is a busy month of birthdays, so here are the cards I drew. I’m excited to have them available for you now! There will also be a new one up by the end of the week but I can’t spoil the surprise just yet…
There is also this Wednesday Birthday Card that is in stock and ready to ship! Did you watch the show?
And lastly - you can now order a 5 pack of these thank you cards.
Commissions:
I had the absolute pleasure of drawing this adorable Aussie puppy, and then printing some cards, stickers, gift tags, and mini prints! If you’re thinking of a custom project, sign up now to save your spot.
Valentine’s Cards:
Valentine’s Day isn’t until February, but if you’re looking for any cards, you can browse the shop. The Galentine’s Frenchie was the most popular card last year and sold out, so I want to give you a heads up that it’s back!
Subscriber Chat on the Substack App:
The platform I use for this newsletter is called Substack. There is an app that you can download to read these newsletters, and the app also released a chat feature. I set up exclusively for my subscribers — kind of like a group chat or live hangout. It’s a great way to connect! You can read more about it in this newsletter.
Zoom Meet-up to Sketch & Chat:
It’s official— the first Zoom Meet-up is on January 12 at 10 AM EST / 3 PM London. I hope you will join us for an hour of chatting and sketching. Being part of an art community has been important to my growth, so I want to offer a space for artists to learn together.
Updates on the past month:
Festive Drawing Challenge:
I joined the “Frosty and Festive Challenge” and created an illustrated recipe for Nutella Hot Chocolate. I’m not sure if it’s a thing, but I believe it would be delicious. Would you try it?
My recipe got reposted by They Draw and Cook which was super exciting!
Portfolio Review by Agent Lilla Rogers:
I was part of the My Year of Art School in 2022, and the year couldn’t have ended with anything better than a portfolio review by Lilla! I was so lucky to be selected for the review, and she gave me so many incredible tips. I will be writing a newsletter to share all the advice she shared, so keep an eye out for that in January.
Learning Gelli-printing:
Did you know I work as a Museum Educator at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston? I recently learned how to make gelli-prints and got to help visitors create their own prints! The purple and teal ones were my favorites. See if you can spot the Boston skyline in the purple one:
Weekly Artists Newsletter:
In case you missed any of the weekly newsletters, here’s what I wrote about in December:
Monthly Pup-date
And lastly, here’s your monthly pup-date!
If you receive the Weekly Artists Newsletter, I’ll see you next week for the 7th Illoguild question, or if you receive just the Monthly Newsletter, I’ll see you in February!
I wish everyone a great start to 2023!
Katie
