Happy June!
If you’re new here - this is the Monthly Newsletter where I share updates about the past month. It’s also great when I get to hear about your month, so leave a comment below about how your month went.
Also every Wednesday I send a newsletter specifically for us artists to learn and grow together.
What I have for you:
Cover Reveal!
I can finally reveal the title and cover of the golf book…. (drum roll please…) Timothy’s Tee Time written by Teddy Myers & Timmy Myers! There is a book launch and first reading on June 21, and the book will also be available on Amazon! This story is truly special and teaches such an important message while also having humor woven throughout it. I cannot wait for you to read it!
Free Monthly Sketch Party!!
The Monthly Sketch Party usually happens on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, but as you just read, that’s when the book is launching. I’ve been invited, so how does the third Tuesday work for you?
Let’s meet on Tuesday, June 20 at 11 AM EST.
What is the Sketch Party? A free one-hour Zoom to hang out with other artists. I lead a 15 minute sketching activity, and then we stay on the zoom and chat while working on various projects for the remainder of the hour. I hope you join us for some community and art! All levels are welcome, and it’s mostly about hanging out with other artists :)

Updates on last month:
Finishing up the books
I have been very hard at work finishing both the golf and fairytale books. One of my favorite parts of working on the golf book was using gouache to paint the backgrounds. I work mostly digitally, but working traditionally for the backgrounds allowed me to get more interesting textures. I got super interested by all the ways to draw grass, and I even included prompts about grass in the May Sketch Party. It’s way more interesting than you’d think!
I won a class!
Woo! I’m a huge fan of the Make Art That Sells Courses, so I always enter their contests for winning a class. And this time I was the lucky winner. The course is about writing kids books, which is something I’ve been wanting to develop. I have a book idea about Spencer, the mascot of the Boston Marathon, who is a beloved dog here in Boston. Here’s my first go at drawing him:
MFA - Opening of From Farm to Craft Table
The annual Community Arts Initiative Exhibit opened at the museum last month. Alex Adamo is the Lead Artist for this enormous felt landscape, and she taught kids from all over the city to craft felt artwork for it. I had the honor of helping to create some of the felt vessels. Alex is such a vibrant, generous, creative soul! I am so grateful to have gotten to know her and her work. I just know she will bring you joy, too, so check her out here and see more about the opening of the exhibit here, including a video that features all the kids who helped!
I didn’t get that dog book…
In April I was contacted by a publisher to create some sample dog characters for a possible book commission. The publisher opted for a different artist in the character design stage. Of course I’m disappointed, because who wouldn’t love to draw a whole book of dogs? But I’m grateful for the real world experience with a publisher.
AND the same publisher is sending me a new brief for a new project! So even though it didn’t work out for that specific book, they are still interested in my work for other projects. It shows how important it is to just get your work out there and cast a wide net. Be brave and send out your work, artists, you’ve got this!
…But I did get another book!
I am so excited to announce that I have another book in the works! The contract is being finalized, so I’ll wait until next month to share more details. But I’m super excited about it, and can’t wait to share it with you.
Monthly Pup-date:
Auggie’s first birthday is in a few weeks— can you believe it?!
Thank you so much for being here and giving me a space to share my art journey with you. If you’re also signed up for the Weekly Artists Newsletters, I’ll see you next Wednesday to talk about kids books!
