What is the Caldecott Medal?
The American Library Association awards the annual Caldecott Medal to an artist for the children’s book with the best illustrations. One illustrator wins the gold medal, and multiple artists can win silver honor medals. It’s important to note that the award is for the art, not the text. The award is for books published in the United States, and the winner(s) are announced in January. It is named after Randolph Caldecott who worked as an illustrator in England during the 1800s.
