Week One of the 3 Materials Drawing Challenge
What I've learned so far 🌱
Hi everyone!
I’m currently participating in the 3 Materials Drawing Challenge, hosted by Charlotte Duance, Kathryn Boyt, and Naomi Tipping, and I’ve so enjoyed this first week of it! If this challenge is new to you, here are the rules:
Sketch for 30 minutes
Use only 3 materials
Draw from life (but I’m drawing topics from my “List of Things I Want to Draw”)
After completing each sketch, I open my laptop and write a few sentences in this Substack post to reflect about the 30 minute sketch. I’ve written about what did and didn’t work, and what materials I’ve enjoyed or disliked.
It’s been such a useful exercise, so I invite you to read along and then write your own reflections.
It’s a bit of a long post, so skip to Day 3 and Day 6 to see my favorites!
This post is available to paid subscribers. If you’re curious more about materials and process, and you’d like to chat about those types of things, I am writing about both those topics here on Substack! That’s what I’ve written about in this post, and my reflection on Week Two is here. Those reflections are available to paid subscribers as an extra post during the 50 days of the challenge.
