They look great! I had a couple on my list. I think I'm going to do a little marathon using the plus subscription, I tried that subscription a while ago and it's really worth it.
I love the random facts, and it's lovely to find out about your illustration journey! Your newsletters have been really helpful and encouraging over the last year, and I'm very grateful for everything that you share.
I don't have much in common with your fun facts - the closest I can get is that I was bitten in the sea too, but by a shark; and it wasn't nearly as traumatic as your experience because he was only 2 inches long. 😆
Hey Kayla! Yes I'll be there! Last year there was a big Whats App group of illustrators who were going, so maybe that'll happen again so well all can meet up :) Also I just followed you on ig -- your work is GORGEOUS!
Eek yes it was quite dramatic! I don't like going in the ocean anymore. But running on land - I'm in! It'll be so good to have you there to cheer us on :)
I just started working full time in education but for the past 2 years I've been learning more about picture book illustration and trying to improve my skills. Maybe one say I'll make the transition to illustration like you did 😊 congrats on your third book!
No way! I found that education was such a great place to be while developing my portfolio. Also your substack is super cool - I'm so intrigued by languages, so I'm going to give you a follow :)
I loved reading about all your great achievements so far, here's to an amazing 2024 💕!
Thanks Damjana! I'm excited for YOUR 2024 too!
So awesome getting to know you better! Can’t wait to run the half in Italy with you!
Same!! I was just looking for a training plan, because I realized it's actually right around the corner!
I love this post! I am very curious and like to know about people. This year I decided to do some courses in domestika, any that you recommend?
Yes definitely! I've taken lots of Domestika courses. The ones that have stuck with me the most are:
- Picture Books (https://www.domestika.org/en/courses/175-introduction-to-children-s-illustration/course)
- Playful Patterns (https://www.domestika.org/en/courses/4971-designing-for-kids-create-playful-patterns)
- Lighting Principles (https://www.domestika.org/en/courses/1560-lighting-principles-for-digital-painting/course)
- Architectural Sketching (https://www.domestika.org/en/courses/1092-architectural-sketching-with-watercolor-and-ink/course)
There are SO many goods ones. You might like some of those, and others you might skip. I'll be curious to see your work from the classes :)

That means so much, Robyn, thank you <3
Oh my goodness a shark bite though! Thank goodness it was only 2 inches long 😆
So nice to learn about you through random facts!
Also you're going to the Bologna Children's Book Faire this year? I'll be there with my friend Vivien! :)

Oh I hope so; that would be FUN! A bunch of illustrators take over!
And aww thank you! So is yours!
I did not know about the poisonous fish bite - Yikes! Can’t wait to cheer you and Carla on during the half marathon this year!
Eek yes it was quite dramatic! I don't like going in the ocean anymore. But running on land - I'm in! It'll be so good to have you there to cheer us on :)
So wonderful to hear your creative journey Katie! Very inspiring and thanks for sharing it with us!
